Mission, Vision, Values

Clean Green Music Machine’s mission is to inform and connect a global network of young people, focusing on elementary school age kids, building a generation of global citizens united and inspired to co-create a sustainable environment for life on our planet. Clean Green Music Machine prepares the next generation for the world we are handing them; a world filled with unprecedented environmental challenges.

Clean Green Music Machine aims to work towards the following:

  • Inspire a generation of young justice leaders into meaningful, committed action towards a just, sustainable planet
  • End our dependence on coal, oil and natural gas, pushing toward a clean energy economy
  • Build and strengthen local communities and economies, breaking our dependence on large corporations and supporting independent, just communities formed around common values
  • Nourish the spiritual health of our society through music, art and dialogue, moving from fear to hope, apathy to action, helplessness to empowerment, and isolation to solidarity

The Clean Green Music Machine (CGMM) was originally brought to life in 2007 in a series of elementary school assembly presentations across New England by CGMM Founder, Mark Files Schwaller’s Boston based rock band. In 2009 they no longer wanted to power their music with fossil fuels and teamed with an engineer to rig up a bicycle powered sound system. This allowed the kids attending the shows to literally power the music. An experienced educator with a music degree, Mark is a respected leader in the climate justice movement. CGMM combines Mark’s passions for music, education and environmental justice. Mark believes that investing in the education and environmental activism of the next generation is the most important work he can do to help humanity.
